Welcome to the Santa Ynez Valley Union High School District's Nutrition Department, otherwise known as the Cafeteria. Our district is committed to the optimal development of every student. We firmly believe that for students to have the opportunity to achieve personal, academic, developmental and social success, we need to create positive, safe and health-promoting learning environments at every level, in every setting, throughout the school year. As the nutrition hub of campus we are making it our mission to ensure that our students' nutritional and dietary needs are met.
Research shows that two components, good nutrition and physical activity before, during and after the school day, are strongly correlated with positive student outcomes. Research shows that students who are physically active through active transport to and from school, nutrition break, physical activity breaks, high-quality physical education and extracurricular activities – do better academically and there is evidence that adequate hydration is associated with better cognitive performance. We are going to ensure that all students in our district have access to healthy foods throughout the school day ‒ both through reimbursable school meals and other foods available throughout the school campus‒ in accordance with Federal and state nutrition standards. Our students will receive quality nutrition education that helps them develop lifelong healthy eating behaviors and will be given opportunities to be physically active before, during and after school.
We participate in the National School Lunch and the National School Breakfast programs. We have applications for Free and Reduced Meals in the business office. We utilize Heartland school systems software for online account payment through MySchoolBucks. We are happy to address any special dietary needs your child may have and request than anyone with special needs contact Corina Raya directly.
